Flu vaccines available now

The flu is more than a bad cold. It can lead to serious illness, especially for young children, older adults, pregnant women and people with chronic health conditions.

Annual flu vaccination is recommended before winter, as protection can take up to two weeks to develop. The Australian Government recommends annual flu vaccination when it becomes available, before the start of the flu season.

Government-funded flu vaccines

Under the National Immunisation Program, flu vaccines are funded for eligible patients, including:

• children aged 6 months to under 5 years

• adults aged 65 years and over

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over

• pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy

• people with certain medical risk conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease or a weakened immune system

NSW Health advises that free influenza vaccines are available from April 2026 for eligible people under the National Immunisation Program.

Flu vaccines for children

We offer flu vaccination for children from 6 months of age.

A needle-free nasal spray flu vaccine may be available for children aged 2–4 years, subject to supply and waitlist availability.

COVID vaccinations

COVID vaccination advice depends on your age, health conditions, immune status and previous vaccination history.

The Australian Immunisation Handbook recommends COVID vaccination for all adults aged 18 years and over, and for children aged 6 months to under 17 years with medical conditions that increase their risk of severe COVID illness.

Your GP can advise whether you are due for a COVID vaccine or booster.

Can I get the flu and COVID vaccine together?

For many patients, flu and COVID vaccines can be given at the same appointment.

Your GP or nurse will check your eligibility, timing and health history before vaccination.

Please bring your Medicare card and any relevant medical information.
