Heart Health Checks

A Heart Health Check is a 15–20 minute appointment with your GP to check your risk of having a heart attack or stroke in the next five years.

It’s a simple way to spot risks early and take steps to protect your heart.

What to Expect

During your appointment, your GP may:

  • Ask about your medical and family history

  • Talk about diet, exercise, smoking, and alcohol

  • Check blood pressure

  • Review cholesterol and blood sugar levels

  • Calculate your heart disease risk

  • Give you a personal plan to reduce your risk

This may include lifestyle advice or medication if needed.

Why It Matters

  • Heart disease often has no early symptoms

  • Early action can prevent heart attacks and strokes

  • Small changes now can make a big difference later
