Childhood immunisations

Childhood vaccines are given at specific ages to help protect children when they are most at risk of serious vaccine-preventable diseases. NSW Health notes that immunisation experts carefully choose the timing of vaccines to provide the best protection.

In NSW, routine childhood immunisations are commonly scheduled around:

  • 6 weeks

  • 4 months

  • 6 months

  • 12 months

  • 18 months

  • 4 years

Your GP or nurse can check your child’s immunisation history and advise what vaccines are due. Check out NSW health for more information

Baby and child health checks

Child health appointments are not only about vaccines. They are also an opportunity to check how your child is growing, developing and meeting expected milestones.

Your GP or nurse may check:

  • weight, length or height

  • head circumference for babies

  • feeding and sleep

  • movement and development

  • hearing, vision or speech concerns

  • behaviour and emotional wellbeing

  • parent questions or concerns

NSW Health describes the Blue Book as an important record of your child’s health, illnesses, injuries, growth and development.

6-week baby check

The 6-week check is an important early appointment for both baby and parent.

Your GP may check:

  • baby’s growth and feeding

  • hips, heart, eyes and general wellbeing

  • weight gain and development

  • parent recovery and wellbeing

  • immunisations due around this age

  • any feeding, sleep or settling concerns

Please bring your child’s Blue Book to the appointment.
